온라인카지노“I didn’t know women’s baseball existed, and now I have to look for women’s baseball dreamers” [SS Inaugural Interview ②]Head coach Jung Keun-woo (41), who took over the Korean women’s national baseball team earlier this year, and his players showed great determination and won a valuable bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Cup (BFA) in Hong Kong on July 1. The team will now head to Canada in August to face off against women’s baseball powerhouses such as the United States and Australia. As Sports Seoul celebrates its 38th anniversary, we talked to Coach Jung about her memories of Hong Kong and her plans for Canada
Coach Jung Geun-woo, who led Korea’s baseball team to its heyday as a national second baseman, is currently in the midst of promoting women’s baseball. In addition to his regular appearances on JTBC’s “Strongest Baseball” and MBC’s “King of Masked Men,” he has appeared on various broadcasts and media outlets to promote women’s baseball.
“When I saw women’s baseball firsthand, I felt that something could be done with a little help from those around me,” she said. “As a person who loves baseball and has been playing baseball for a long time, I saw the potential of women’s baseball,” he says, smiling. “It’s fun, and I saw the passion of the players, so I thought I should spread the word a little bit more.”
As Chung worked hard to promote women’s baseball, her colleagues also chimed in. “When the team won the bronze medal, my brothers (Lee) Dae-ho and (Chu) Hsin-soo said, ‘You did a great job. Congratulations,’ and asked if there was anything they could do to help.”
He has also coached players on KBS’s “Youth Baseball Team,” but his coaching career officially began earlier this year when he was named coach of the women’s national baseball team. “I was touched by the handwritten letters from the players on Teacher’s Day. They’re girls, after all, and they’re strong at events (laughs). “They say ‘thank you’ to me a lot, but I’m more grateful. We are each other’s thankfulness.”
He also said that coaching the female players made him reflect on himself. “During the filming of ‘Strongest Baseball,’ I had a bad leg. At that moment, I thought about our female players. They don’t have a lot of muscles, and they don’t have a lot of fat, but they play hard even when they get hit by the ball. I remembered that, and I did the same.”
She volunteers to set the tone for the team. An official from the Women’s Baseball Association of Korea (WBAK), which oversees the national team, said, “When the players were tired of training, Coach Jung would tell them funny stories to lift their spirits. She is genuine with the women’s national team.”
“If our meeting was a ‘connection,’ I wanted to make it a good one. I didn’t even know that ‘women’s baseball’ existed, and I didn’t want the players to have any difficulties with me. I also wanted to get to know the players quickly so that I could give them better coaching, so it didn’t take long for us to open up to each other,” she says, laughing cheerfully, “The problem now is that we’re too close.”
After a short break, the team will resume training on July 1. The team will play the group stage of the WBSC World Baseball Classic (WBC) in Canada for about 10 days starting on August 8. Korea is in a group with the United States, Australia, Canada, Mexico, and Hong K
Now I have to go out and find girls who want to play baseball.”
Jung was named to the KBO Talent Donor Committee, which was established by the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) in the middle of last month. Seventeen legendary baseball players who have left their mark on the KBO were selected for the program. Coach Jung and other retired legends, including Lee Man-soo, Song Jin-woo, Jung Min-tae, and Kim Sun-woo, have been visiting elementary schools to teach T-ball, a lead-up sport to baseball.
“We’ve already gone to elementary schools twice,” says Jung, “and not only boys, but now girls, too. I’ll be looking for girls who want to play baseball,” he said, revealing his ‘steamed’ love for the sport.

Coach Jung said, “We will strengthen the team by replacing players before resuming training. We want to prove to the world that Korean women’s baseball is strong, and we want to hear the words ‘women’s baseball has great potential’ after the tournament.”
