Samsung Lions closer Oh Seung-hwan has been demoted to the second team.
Samsung called up pitcher Kim Si-hyun and removed Oh Seung-hwan from the first-team roster ahead of their upcoming game against KT Wiz in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on April 18.
This is the second time since the start of the season that Oh Seung-hwan has been demoted to the second team since March 4.
Seung-hwan Oh pitched the bottom of the eighth inning against the Suwon KT on April 16 and gave up a run on Jung Jun-young’s bunt single and Park Kyung-soo’s RBI double.
A sacrifice bunt by Ahn Chi-young put runners on first and third, prompting the Samsung bench to make another pitching change and call up left-hander Lee Seung-hyun, who was warming up in the bullpen.
As he was walking down the mound, Oh threw the ball hard into the third base bleachers, and after entering the dugout, he threw down his glove and expressed his anger.
Samsung manager Park Jin-man had a meeting with the player and decided to send him to the second team. The plan is for Seung-hwan to rehabilitate in the second team for the time being, and once he’s ready, he’ll be promoted to the first team.
This season, Oh has appeared in 23 games and has a record of 2-2 with a 4.23 ERA in 27⅔ innings pitched, two wins, two losses, nine holds, and nine saves. On March 3, he made his debut start against the Kiwoom Heroes at home, looking to turn things around, but he’s still struggling.메이저놀이터
Meanwhile, right-hander Kim Si-hyun, who joined the first-team squad, was drafted by Samsung in the 29th round of the 2017 secondary draft and has a 6.96 ERA in 35 games and 42⅔ innings pitched.
After completing his military service this year, Kim was called up to the first team for the first time since the start of the season and went 1-3 with a 4.71 ERA in 23 games and 28⅔ innings in the Futures League.
