Eom Won-sang (Ulsan Hyundai) talked about the awkwardness of being the oldest.
The 27 Korean national under-24 (U-24) Asian Games teams were convened at the Paju National Team Training Center (NFC) on the 15th. The national team, which is made up of all K-League players, will keep pace for three days until the 17th.
The Hangzhou Asian Games, in which Hwang Sun-Hong will participate, will open in September. It was originally scheduled to be held last year, but was delayed for a year due to the COVID-19 situation in China. The age limit for soccer participation has also been changed from U-23 to U-24.
Um Won-sang, who served as the team representative before training, expressed his determination, saying, “It is an honor to be called up to 메이저놀이터 the national team, as all players are,” and said, “I will show a good performance by understanding what the coach wants during the short call-up period.”
He said, “I know that the players have a short period of time to convene while preparing for the Asian Games,” he said. At the same time, he added, “What will change if we worry about our lack of time?” He added, “It is important that the players understand the coach’s orders well and match them one by one.”
Eom Won-sang joined the national team with a lighter heart. This is because his team, Ulsan, is in first place in the K-League 1. He said, “It is true that Ulsan is doing well, so I feel comfortable.” As a member of the national team, I have to match the atmosphere.”
In the Asian Games age group, there are players who achieved the legend of runner-up in the FIFA U-20 World Cup four years ago. Eom Won-sang also shared the glory at the time. He said, “It is true that players know well what they are good at or what they like to play,” but said, “Since many players have changed, it is important to understand the tendencies of all players and unite well.”
As such, there are many evaluations that highly value the team’s power. Eom Won-sang did not let go of the tension, saying, “Not only my position, but also all the positions, and the young players are doing very well.”
Through this tournament, Korea will challenge to win three consecutive Asian Games. Earlier, starting with the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, he won a gold medal at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games. It is an environment that is difficult to welcome unless it is a gold medal.
Eom Won-sang said, “It is true that Korea is a strong team in Asia, so it is good for us to feel pressure.” He added, “I think there will be good results if you enjoy it rather than burden it like during the U-20 World Cup.”
Eom Won-sang, born in January 1999, is the oldest member of the national team. He said, “There are obviously many good players in this team,” and “Because the team itself is created by the coach, I think my biggest role is to lead my juniors well as the best.”
Regarding the oldest modifier, Um Won-sang said, “I have a timid personality and I’m not the type to take good care of my juniors, so I’m unfamiliar with it myself.”
