‘Average Attendance No. 1’ Seoul, ‘Fan-Friendly’ Ulsan…K-League’s 1st Club Award Winners Revealed

The results of the first round of the Hana OneQ K League 2023 Club Awards have been announced.

The Korea Professional Football League (KPF) announced the winners of the ▲Full Stadium Award, ▲Plus Stadium Award, ▲Fan Friendly Club Award, and ▲Green Stadium Award after evaluating their attendance and marketing performance in rounds 1-13 of the K League 1 and K League 2.

This season, the K League 1 has continued its box office success, with an average attendance of more than 10,000 fans per game so far. Seoul took home both the Full Stadium Award, which recognizes the club with the largest number of fans, and the Plus Stadium Award, which honors the club with the largest year-over-year increase in attendance.

Seoul drew an average of 27,531 paying fans in six home matches between Rounds 1-13, the most of any of the 12 K League 1 clubs, and an increase of 18,745 over last season’s average of 8,786.

The ‘Fan Friendly Club’ award was won by Ulsan with a combined score of 96.2 points. During the period, Ulsan captured the hearts of fans by introducing ‘UH-MALL’ in Munsu Football Stadium, offering a variety of food and entertainment, and opening the K League’s first ‘mascot brand store’. Ulsan was honored as the ‘Fan Friendly Club’ for the seventh time in a row from the first game of the 2021 season.

Second-place Daejeon (88.8 points) was recognized for improving fan-friendly stadium facilities such as the renewal of the MD shop and the establishment of the general information center ‘HANA LOUNGE,’ and third-place Seoul (78.4 points) was recognized for leading a healthy K League viewing culture through the commissioning of ‘HERO’ Lim Young-woong. The Fan Friendly Club Award is awarded by adding the scores of the first jury evaluation (40%) and the second group vote (40% of journalists and 20% of fans).

For the first Green Stadium Award, the winner was determined by combining the evaluation of Samsung C&T, the K League’s turf management consulting partner (60%), the evaluation of the match supervisor (20%), and the evaluation of the players (20%). As a result, Daegu’s home stadium, DGB Daegu Bank Park, received the highest score. Ulsan’s home stadium, Ulsan Munsoo Stadium, and Suwon Samsung’s home stadium, Suwon World Cup Stadium, followed in second and third place, respectively.

In the K League 2, Busan attracted 3,595 fans to its five home matches from Rounds 1-13, up 2,127 from last season’s average of 1,468. This was the largest increase among the 13 clubs in the first round of the K League 2 and the highest attendance.
